About SmartHomeSensei
SmartHomeSensei is an independent resource for setting up, connecting and fixing a smart home. We cover the standards and platforms most people actually use — Matter and Thread, Amazon Alexa, Google Home and Nest, and the open-source world of Home Assistant — with a focus on clear, accurate, step-by-step guidance.
Smart-home tech is full of overlapping apps, hubs and standards that don't always agree with each other. Our goal is to be the calm, trustworthy guide that explains what something does, whether you need it, and exactly how to get it working — without hype and without selling you gear you don't need.
How we work
Our guides are research-based. We do not operate a paid testing lab, and we never pretend to. Instead, every guide is built from primary, authoritative sources: manufacturer setup documentation, the official specifications from the Connectivity Standards Alliance (Matter/Thread), platform help centers, and the lived experience documented across official community forums. Where we describe a process, it reflects the documented, supported way to do it. See How We Research for the full method.
Editorial independence
SmartHomeSensei is reader-supported and may earn a commission from some links. That never changes what we recommend or how we describe a product. We have no sponsored placements masquerading as guides. Read our Affiliate Disclosure.
